We have stuffed our bellies, the Christmas decorations are coming out of their boxes, and another year is about to end.

This year is almost over and so are several of our projects.

The Winning Collection has had the privilege of restoring a 1959 and 1967 Chevy Corvette, a 1939 Ford Woody and a 1967 Chevy Chevelle! And these are only a few of the projects that we have recently finished, or working hard towards completing. While the restoration process may be ending for these cars, the shop still has their hands busy with some other exceptional vehicles! Check out our “Current Projects” page to see photos of the vehicles we are currently restoring!

Some may ask, what the fascination is with vintage, classic and muscle cars. An easy and logical answer would be that each car has a unique story and captures a piece of our nation’s history.

Or perhaps it reclaims a moment of time in a person’s life that encapsulates the innocence of their youth. For example, Chevrolet has come out with a commercial recently that portrays this very feeling. An aging man, reunited with a car from his past; which brings pure joy and tears to his face!

One could argue that modern vehicles aren’t built with the same integrity as once before and that there is something majestic about earlier models.

There are numerous answers to why people are enthusiastic about these types of vehicles, but The Winning Collection plans on sharing with you the stories behind some of these cars. We invite you to stay tuned for some upcoming newsletters that will provide you with some history and interesting facts regarding the vehicles that enter our shop!

One of our crew members made the mistake of wearing shorts the first morning, but after a few miserable hours in the bitter cold, it forced him to head back to the truck to retrieve a pair of pants! A couple of the other TWC crew members found warmth in the hats they purchased while attending the car show!

It started off cold, but after being honored with PPG’s “Dream Car” award, the TWC crew started to warm up! The 1967 Chevy Corvette or the “A-Bomb” had the eyes of many attending the event. Admirers couldn’t help but stop to glance at its stunning atomic orange exterior and drool over its impressive interior features!

If the first award wasn’t enough to be thrilled about, the TWC crew was honored once again! This time Detroit Speed awarded the A-Bomb with “Builders Choice“. The A-Bomb was also selected for the Gazette, which means it will get a centerfold layout in the published Good Guy’s Gazette! So be looking for that exciting layout of the Award-Winning A-Bomb!

The second car attending the event, a 1959 Chevy Corvette, or “Nemesis” wasn’t without its admirers too! Its distinguished color schema made it a stand out among the crowd! There were quite a few vehicles participating during the weekend, so car enthusiasts attending the event were offered a wide variety of model types, colors and custom features for viewing! We are just thrilled that our two vehicles: The A-Bomb and Nemesis were are among the vehicles that stood out!

Overall, it was a great weekend! If you didn’t get a chance to attend this year, make a mental note to make a trip to Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2012! As for the crew at TWC, we look forward to doing it all over again next year! However, we will hope for 70 degrees and clear skies!

Fall is here! And Winter is knocking at the door!

It is that time of year when Western North Carolina is the place to be for sightseeing while cruising the Appalachian Mountains! The magnificent views of the fall foliage is always a guarantee to surprise and delight our eyes!

Grandfather Mountain, Cold Mountain, and US Highway 19 are some great scenic destinations during the earliest part of the season.

Waterfall Country, Hot Springs, Maggie Valley and Cherokee offer some breath taking views during the middle part of the season, which typically occurs in the middle of October.

Chimney Rock Park, Reems Creek Valley, Hickory Nut Gorge to Black Mountain, Kimberly Avenue, and the North Carolina Arboretum are some great places to witness the fall foliage finale!

After enjoying these beautiful drives, it is time to prepare your collectible car for storage during the harsh winter conditions. Here are a few suggestions we can offer you:

1. Keep the gas tank full and add a fuel stabilizer, allowing the fuel to maintain fresh during the long storage. We suggest running the engine for a few minutes after adding the stabilizer.
2. Change the oil filter, if necessary.
3. Check the antifreeze.
4. Give the car a good thorough cleaning and a superb waxing.
5. Use a “trickle” charger to keep the battery working. This will keep a continuous, but low charge throughout the stored months.
6. Keep the car on jack stands because the tires will be effected if the car is sitting without use for an extensive period of time.
7. Keep small animals away from the car; therefore it is a good idea to check the storage unit for all possible entrances in to the space.

Thank goodness we have the warmth of spring and picturesque mountain drives in our future!

The shop is busy preparing a couple cars for an exciting journey to Charlotte for the 18th Southeastern Nationals, which is sponsored by Good Guy Rod & Custom Association. There are twenty-one dynamic events occurring this year, in which eighteen are national events for customs, rods, classics and muscle cars through 1972. The event runs from October 28th through October 30th at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina. The weekend will consist of a spectacular car show, numerous vendor exhibits, a swap meet and live entertainment to go along with all the fun!

The weekend basically revolves around good company and genuine love for cars; however, the sponsors, Good Guy Rod & Custom Association, will recognize several cars that weekend with special awards. For instance, Truck of the Year, Muscle Car of the Year,  Kustom of the Year and Muscle Machine of the Year will be the highlighted awards given at this event.

The Winning Collection staff is working diligently to present two vehicles that meet the criteria necessary for earning recognition for automotive merit!

We invite you to stop by the shop to view the two cars we have been building, but hurry because they will be traveling to Charlotte at the end of October!

Interestingly, The Atomic Bomb was located at Paul Atkins shop during the damaging tornado that touched down in Hanceville, Alabama a few months back. Fortunately, The Atomic Bomb and Paul Atkins shop avoided destruction caused by the storm. We will continue to keep residents of Hanceville in our thoughts as they continue to rebuild after the devastation.

We truly hope this beauty will inspire hope because words cannot describe the exquisite, custom interior…so get ready because the debut of The Atomic Bomb is coming soon!
